Mrs. Kamer M.s small and very private restaurant/inn is tucked away behind garden walls in a 10-house farming community in an off-the-beaten-track corner of the Köyceğiz Plain. It offers a few impeccably outfitted rooms, a good restaurant, and the fascinating person of the host herself.
Kamer Hanım quit a comfortable Istanbul life to rebuild her life as a caterer and a chef. She ran a French restaurant in small-town USA until she earned enough money to build her dream home here. She cooks (French, Turkish, whatever) with panache. She grooms peasant girls to cordon bleu standards. She sets up a classy table, with silver salt-shakers et al. The fried calamar are the best you will ever eat. Entrecote stuffed with artichoke and octopus Portugese-style are other interesting options. And she is a blast when you get her into talkative mood.
The land is nearly tropical in its abundance. Nearby is a forest of sweetgum (liquidambar orientalis), and beyond it the fabulously unspoiled Lake of Köyceğiz. One can stay here a few days, and try to imagine what a paradise Dalyan must have been before it was taken over by the touristic rabble.
